MWA (Moravian Womens Association)

On September 7th 1949, a Provincial Committee met to consider the proposal: THAT AN EFFORT BE MADE TO FORM A PROVINCIAL WOMEN’S ORGANISATION TO BIND TOGETHER THE WOMEN OF OUR CONGREGATIONS IN CLOSER FELLOWSHIP AND SERVICE. The M.W.A. thus held its first Circle meetings in January 1950.

The vision to unite all Moravian women was to be done through study, prayer, service and giving. Each month we receive 3 papers to share, discuss and commit to prayer with the theme this year being, ‘With God in the Garden. Projects are chosen to support, both within and outside the Moravian Church and both at home and overseas.

Recent donations include –
Summer Camp £500
European Women’s Conference in Northern Ireland £1,000
Poppy Project £1,000
Moravian Projects in Albania and Burundi £2,000

We have an annual day for all to gather for a time of singing, speakers, workshops etc. and an opportunity to catch up with old friends. Our next Away Day will be here in Hall Green in April 2016. There are also events such as the European Women’s Conference every 2 years, (last held at Drumalis, Northern Ireland, 4th – 8th June 2015) and an American Women’s Conference every 5 years.

The M.W.A. has also been able to give women a voice through consultation on white papers dealing with domestic violence, the needs of the elderly and other social issues.

Our vision is to extend the deepening and growth of the life of the Church and we are grateful for all the prayers and support we receive, as we seek to make our vision a reality.

WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL WOMEN TO JOIN US IN OUR WORK AND WORSHIP WITHIN THE M.W.A.
